Without Warning (1980)

  When teenagers gather to go camping in the woods one would normally just expect an immortal undead being to stalk them one by one with a knife or machete. But this is what separates Without Warning from other slasher movies of the era as these teenagers experience deadly disc shaped flying aliens which attach themselves to their victims inserting oozing tendrils into their skin instead of the rote manic with a knife trope. 
How about a nice game of catch!


 Somehow inexplicably,  this movie features 2 Academy Award winners, Jack Palance and Martin Landeau. Plus a young pre-CSI Miami David Caruso and F-Troops Larry Storch! This movie oozes talent like a deadly disc shaped flying alien oozes goo into its victims. 
I guess you can say I've been slimed! EEEEOOOOWWWW!


This movie plods along for a bit before getting to the good kills. They off Caruso much too soon. and failed to give him sunglasses and one liners. Really a missed opportunity. Palance does not disappoint however as the only one in town to believe the kids since the Alien has tried and failed to kill hium multiple times in the past. While  Landeau is in full on scene chewing manicness. They do have a cub scout troop which they fail to kill on screen in hilarious ways. I mean cub scouts + flying deadly aliens=hilarity. How could the film makers not have seen this?

Despite having some top tier actors, there's just too much off the mark here to elevate Without Warning which is a shame as I feel all the ingredients for a great cult classic are here and it does have some nice moments with Jack Palance. However, I can only give Without Warning 5 oozing flying aliens.

Candyman

Candyman (1992) The Plot: A graduate student working on her thesis on folklore legends finds more than what she bargained for!   Despite the title, there is no candy in Candyman. Instead we get bees. Many, many bees. The worst of which are the bees filling a toilet. Toilet bees should not be a thing. It's probably the most disturbing thing in this movie. We should thank our lucky stars that we don;t have to check our toilets for bees on a regular basis.  My God! Toilet bees!   Candyman tells the story of a boogyman with a hook for a hand that appears when his name is said 5 times while gazing into a mirror. Go ahead, try doing that. I dare you. BWAHAHAHA! Teenagers From Outer Space

  Teenagers From Outer Space (1959) The Plot: A teenager from outer space arrives on Earth as a precursor to invasion but has a change of heart once he meets some Earthlings.    When a teenager from outer space arrives in your neighborhood and introduces himself to you, I bet you would think he would have a weird name, Zortar or Trxtgrwkjj; anything but Derek. But here in this movie, the 2 aliens that arrive are named Derek and Thor, which is not a vaudeville act that toured exclusively in Minnesota in the late 1930s but rather 2 teenagers from space (although they look vaguely early 30ish, perhaps there is something in the water on Derek and Thor's home planet that ages them prematurely). Thor uses his fantastic focused disintegrating ray to kill a dog. This is a line that Derek will not cross.
