Day Of The Dead (1985)

The Plot: A group of scientists protected by the military try to find a cure for the zombie apocalypse. 

  The zombie apocalypse is in full effect. Cities are deserted except for the hordes of undead shuffling aimlessly in search of brains to eat. The remaining humans are forced to find safety wherever they can. That is where we find things at the beginning of Day of the Dead. Things are looking pretty damned bleak. That's the way things are in the zombie apocalypse. Undead walk the streets, humans forced underground, and forget about finding good Thai food, hope is fading fast!

  We find out that our heroes are holed up in a military base. The military is there to protect the scientists who are conducting experiments to find out hoe to deal with the dreaded zombie apocalypse. Of course, things go south right away due to the frayed nerves and general unease that comes with the territory of a zombie apocalypse. The military resorts to their training and simply want to kill anything in their way, undead zombies, pretentious scientists, whatever! The scientists resent the military's presence and start experimenting in ways counter to what the military wants. Essentially, lead scientist Logan  is using captured zombies to experiment on in hopes of taming them and making them re-enter civilization. He does succeed in bringing some lost memories to the surface for one he dubs "Bub".
Bub was upset that the only cassette tape to survive the zombie apocalypse was Wham's "Make It Big"

  Naturally, the military men are upset over keeping zombies around and treating them like people. They get particularly upset when its found out that Logan was feeding Bub with the corpses of their dead military comrades. This does not sit well with Captain Rhodes who has already gone bye-bye due to the stress of the zombie apocalypse. And who can blame him! Undead hordes everywhere, no good Thai food, forced to MREs everyday with the same old people. It's enough to drive a guy daffy! and daffy is what we get from him. He turns on the scientists, kills Logan, tries to kill the others, they flee to the helicopter and escape as thew zombies overrun the base. Happy ending!

  Day of the Dead is an excellent zombie moving with realistic portrayals of people stuck in a horrible circumstance. There could be a little more zombie action particularly in the beginning of the movie where there is a lot of setup happening, still i give it 7 walkman wearing zombies!

Rosemary's Baby (1968) The Plot: A young couple moves into a new apartment where they soon find out the kindly old neighbors are not at all what they seem.   Rosemary's Baby is not a scary movie per se, as it avoids the usual jump scares, gore, etc. that is the trappings of most horror movies. Instead it ratchets up the creep factor and plays the unnerving tension up to 11.Because it avoids the usual gore and violence (especially since most of the action takes place in real, everyday places such as Doctor's offices and apartment living rooms), it makes the creepiness slow burn until it's reached a boiling point and you think this actually could happen in the real world. Of course, some of the creepiness comes from the coven ritual where all the septuagenarian witches are nude. Earth Vs. The Spider

Earth Vs. The Spider (1958) The Plot: A giant spider enters a suburb and gets more than he bargained for!   The stakes are high in this movie. It's not just someone vs. the spider, or the town vs. the spider. No. It's the whole flippin' earth vs. the spider. Now I'm not sure the spider knows it's the entire earth vs. him. He doesn't seem to inclined to actually leave the confines of the sleepy town. He just doing things a spider would do. You know, live in a dark, cool cave, spin webs, attack passing motorists, whatever!  His mistake was getting the high school kids to start investigating. He would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for those meddling kids! Now, when i say kids, it is quite obvious that none of these "kids" are high school age.
