Victor Frankenstein
Victor Frankenstein (2015)
The Plot: A scientist tries to make life from dead bodies
Victor Frankenstein is a movie told through the eyes of his once hunchbacked assistant, Igor. Yes, Dr. Frankenstein cures him of his hunchback which naturally endears himself to Igor who was making a living as a freak in a sideshow at the circus. That's probably why Igor goes along with the good doctor's plans to assemble a body from dead parts and bring it to life.
Before assembling a man from dead body parts, its best to smart small with a chimpanzee for example |
Telling the story from Igor's point of view is for the best in this movie. I mean, first off, there's been many stories from Dr. Frankenstein's point of view so we already know the story of the mad genius. If we told it from the monster's point of view here, he would be dead; no thoughts. Then ZAP! burst of electricity. Open eyes, see that everyone is now trying to kill you so you fight back until you are dead again. That would be a short and unfulfilling movie. they could tell this from the Police's point of view through Detective Turpin who gets his hand crushed and loses sight in one eye in his first fight with the good doctor. Only to then get killed by the rampaging monster. That guy had bad luck in spades!

It seems Igor was as good a point of view as any. It's lucky he was there at the climactic fight., They did create the monster with 2 hearts and four lungs in order to handle the electricity surge. A fact they conveniently forget when trying to kill their rampaging monster. They only wrote extensive diagrams, thought this out to no end but then just stab it in the shoulder when the time comes! Not since Mola Ram forgetting he has the power to remove a man's beating heart as someone been this slow to figure things out. Luckily, our heroes come to their senses after much carnage and remember they put 2 hearts in the monster and stab him there. PHEW! Disaster averted except for a whole team of now dead assistants, a dead (albeit once rampaging) monster, dead police detectives and a destroyed castle. But at least the good doctor gets to continue to practice medicine and that is a good thing.
I'm not sure why everyone was scared of my 12 foot tall dead friend |
Victor Frankenstein at least tries to do something different with the Frankenstein myth, but sometimes the best hits are the greatest hits and if it ain't broken, don't fix it! I give Victor Frankenstein 5 rampaging monsters.
