Pumpkinhead

Pumpkinhead (1988)

The Plot: Lance Henriksen's young son is killed by some callous 20-somethings, so he seeks revenge by witchcraft.

Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Terminator) is just an average widow, living alone with his young son in the 1980's. I assume it's the 1980s as that is when this movie was made. But this movie makes it appear as if they are living right in the late 30s dustbowl depression. There are dirt bikes, telephones, electricity, acid washed jean jackets and big hair, so it must be the 80s, right? But all the townsfolk wear brown, dirt covered clothes and appear one step away from starvation all while making a living on a farm.
Thank goodness the demonic hell beast is not anatomically correct

Anyway, one thing for sure, where there are creepy dustbowl ragamuffins, then there must also be unspeakable demonic creatures too! Lance just can't deal with his son's death by dirtbike, so he does what any self respecting father would do: he visits a witch to summon a demonic hell beast to exact revenge!
If a witch asks you to dig up a body in a dark pumpkin patch, you say...NO!

The hell beast is fun in this movie, as is the visit to the witch. But most of the "teenagers" are really unlikable, especially the drunk driving, dirt bike killing, girl friend hitting Joel. I would normally be rooting for the demonic hell beast, except for the fact that Lance has a change of mind and tries to send the hell beast back from whence it came.(easier said then done!). There's just no rooting against Lance Henriksen when a demonic hell beast is involved.
Demonically possessed, pitchfork wielding Lance Henriksen is my favorite Lance Henriksen

Despite Lance, i must give this movie only 5 demonic hell beasts as i feel like it was a poor choice to make Lance a man of few words. If you have Lance in your movie, use him!
