Demon Wind
Demon Wind (1990)
The Plot: A young man investigates the cause of his grandparents murder only to uncover a demonic source
Demon Wind is a bit of a misnomer. Sure there are demons. Plenty of demons. But there's no wind! Demon Wind almost sounds like one of those made for Syfy channel movies that combine killer animals and natural disasters like Sharknado. Sadly, there are no high winds dropping demons on an unsuspecting public. Instead we get the story of a group of friends exploring the cause of the mysterious deaths of the grandparents of the lead, Cory. I would say there are several archetype characters here but this movie eschews character development. So we know these people may be friends, but there is no backstory to any of them. There's the blonde girl, the bully jock, the smart one, and not 1 but 2 magicians including one who combines magic with martial arts. Easily the most interesting character here. Naturally he's the first of the friends to die.

Little known fact: Demons enjoy a nice hat |
The acting in Demon Wind is ...well...acted. Sort of. None of these actors ever went on to much else of note. Howver, several do vaguely look like other more famous actors. The old man resembles Lloyd Bridges. The karate kicking magician sort of looks Kevin Baconish. The blonde girl could be any number of 80s movie blonde stars.

I picked the wrong week to stop pulling a gun on the customers. Lloyd Bridges or not Lloyd Bridges? |
It does have some good things going for it. There are many demons. This movie also features no less than 4 actors biting into blood packs stuffed int heir mouths and then spitting out the blood. That's gotta be some kind of record. We also see a number of magic tricks such as the "bird out of thin air" and "flowers from up a sleeve". One character is eaten by a skull. However, one down side is that we never see a magic trick WHILE a karate move is being administered or the "interlocking rings" trick.
