Doctor Of Doom

Doctor of Doom (1963)

The Plot: A mad scientist intent on transplanting a gorilla brain into human bodies takes to the world of women's wrestling to accomplish his goals.

Science can be a double edged sword. When you do things like use science to cure diseases, they call you a hero. When you do it to transplant gorilla brains into humans just to see what would happen, they call you a monster.  One can imagine the reason why he is inserting gorilla brains into humans is like the reason people climb Mount Everest because they can. Although, I suppose you could fill any ambition with an army of gorilla brained wrestlers at you beck and call.

It's all in the name of science!

He has successfully done this once with a man who he names Gomar. Gomar follows his every command and has the strength of 10 men.  He then sets his sights on doing this with a woman specimen. He first starts off innocently enough by only kidnapping regular women. When that fails, he realizes he needs stronger specimens. And where else can he find that but in the world of women's professional wrestling of course! But not just any professional wrestling, but the world of Mexican Lucha Libre women's professional wrestling.

Gomar at your service

Donning a mask our mad scientist creates the ultimate heel wrestler, Vendetta in order to exact his revenge against our intrepid heroines, Gloria Venus and Golden Rubi. The smart premise would be for Gloria Venus and Golden Rubi to be an unstoppable force vanquishing a parade of masked heels. But its still the 60s, so the incompetent male cops who were thwarted at every turn have to fight Vendetta at the end. We really deserved a Vendetta/Mad Scientist vs. Golden Rubi/Gloria Venus tag team cage match. But alas, we never got that.

Science finally delivers the perfect wrestling heel

Doctor of Doom is a silly movie that should've been even sillier, but its sticks to familiar tropes instead of going full Lucha Libre mode, which is a shame. I give Doctor of Doom 4 Lucha Libre masks.
