The Plot: A former doctor turned prison warden conducts strange experiments on the inmates

Blood of the Vampire, despite the title features no vampires. It does feature an evil doctor who works with blood but i guess Blood of the Doctor is not as intriguing a title. The aforementioned doctor is named Dr. Callistratus which smoothly and evilly rolls of the tongue. I'd be leery if I had an appointment with a doctor named Dr. Callistratus. Even if it was a dentist, I would probably think he was an evil dentist. Not to mention Dr. Callistratus has an assistant with physical abnormalities such as a pronounced limp, bulging non-blinking eye and an inability to talk. If that doesn't scream evil mad doctor, then I'm afraid nothing will. 
Always take care of your evil assistants


The good doctor likes to experiment on heart and blood  transfusions which seems ahead of his time int he 19th century, but of course, he does this unscrupulously on prison inmates. He takes advantage of his dual role as evil doctor and evil prison warden to have  a wrongly convicted doctor, Dr. Pierre transferred to his prison where he forces him to help in his experiments. It doesn't take long for Dr. Pierre to figure out something was wrong. He must have put deformed, mute assistant + evil sounding name + pack of ravenous dogs as "pets" + deserted castle prison = murderous intent. 
Relax! This is all int he name of science!


The main problem with keeping ravenous dogs for enforcement of punishment, is that if you do not treat your deformed assistant happy, he may just turn the tables on you and feed you to your own dogs. And if that happens not even a name as evil as Dr. Callistratus can save you.
The iceman cometh


I can't help but feel that if Blood of the Vampire had, you know, actual vampires in it that it would've been a more compelling movie. For this decidedly lack of vampires, I give Blood of the Vampire 4 packs of ravenous dogs.

Candyman (1992) The Plot: A graduate student working on her thesis on folklore legends finds more than what she bargained for!   Despite the title, there is no candy in Candyman. Instead we get bees. Many, many bees. The worst of which are the bees filling a toilet. Toilet bees should not be a thing. It's probably the most disturbing thing in this movie. We should thank our lucky stars that we don;t have to check our toilets for bees on a regular basis.  My God! Toilet bees!   Candyman tells the story of a boogyman with a hook for a hand that appears when his name is said 5 times while gazing into a mirror. Go ahead, try doing that. I dare you. BWAHAHAHA! Virginia Madsen  doesn't believe this so she does that...and hilarity ensues! OK maybe not, death ensues. But not before she gets kissed by Candyman who has a mouthful of bees! Slugs (1988) The Plot: Toxic waste mutates slugs and the townsfolk get more than they bargained for.   Slugs. Gross but harmless, right? Sure! Until they are exposed to toxic waste, and then they mutate...into killers! Oh you may think they are slow, and that their brains may only hold the most limited ability to only process the most basic functions to survive; but that would only apply to the garden variety non-toxic waste exposed slugs. (pun intended) Mike Brady, yes, Mike Brady,is the head of the department of health in a sleepy little town who gets caught up in the investigation of some mysterious deaths in town.
