A Nightmare On Elm Street III Dream Warriors (1987)

The Plot: A killer haunts the dreams of a group of kids in a mental institution.

  A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors sees Freddy Krueger in mid-season form. Gone are the growing pains he experienced in the original and part 2. Freddy can now crack wise with the best of the 80's action stars. "Welcome to prime time!" he exclaims as he kills the girl who wanted to be an actress by pushing her head ironically through a television. "Getting tongue tied?" he asks the kid who had a succubus shoot tongues out of her mouth that then tied him to a bad. These are hall of fame worthy wisecracks.

  But that's just the beginning. This movie has a lot going for it such as  a theme song by Dokken, gratuitous nudity, a teen controlled like a marionette by his tendons ripped from his wrist and feet, Freddy's syringe claws, a creepy nun, Freddy eating Patricia Arquette whole, a claymation, stop-motion Freddy,  Freddy killing Zsa Zsa Gabor on the set of the Dick Cavett show, John Saxon!, and the triumphant return of horror legend Heather Langenkamp.

  Despite all of that, Freddy is still the star of the show. We get the back story of his birth here, which I guess amounts to what little character development you can give to a crazed mass murderer. The climax of the movie involves digging up Freddy's bones and dousing them with holy water collected in a booze bottle. This surprisingly works....or does it?

  A Nighmare on Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors is a halloween classic and not just because of the Dokken theme song. I give it 7 wise cracks!

Sure there are some differences as they enlist the help of a Native American shaman instead of a gypsy medium. Although,  Tangina does show up briefly. It also ratchets up the possessed household objects where we get to see attacks from a chainsaw, electric wire, even Robbie's braces. Rosemary's Baby (1968) The Plot: A young couple moves into a new apartment where they soon find out the kindly old neighbors are not at all what they seem.   Rosemary's Baby is not a scary movie per se, as it avoids the usual jump scares, gore, etc. that is the trappings of most horror movies. Instead it ratchets up the creep factor and plays the unnerving tension up to 11.Because it avoids the usual gore and violence (especially since most of the action takes place in real, everyday places such as Doctor's offices and apartment living rooms), it makes the creepiness slow burn until it's reached a boiling point and you think this actually could happen in the real world. Of course, some of the creepiness comes from the coven ritual where all the septuagenarian witches are nude. Earth Vs. The Spider

Earth Vs. The Spider (1958) The Plot: A giant spider enters a suburb and gets more than he bargained for!   The stakes are high in this movie. It's not just someone vs. the spider, or the town vs. the spider. No. It's the whole flippin' earth vs. the spider. Now I'm not sure the spider knows it's the entire earth vs. him. He doesn't seem to inclined to actually leave the confines of the sleepy town. He just doing things a spider would do. You know, live in a dark, cool cave, spin webs, attack passing motorists, whatever!  His mistake was getting the high school kids to start investigating. He would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for those meddling kids! Now, when i say kids, it is quite obvious that none of these "kids" are high school age.
